Noa – Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice
After completing my GCSE’s, I began a Level 3 Diploma in Business at college and worked part-time in hospitality alongside my studies. However, as someone with severe dyslexia, I didn’t feel that I had the right level of support in the college environment, so decided to start looking for alternative educational/employment opportunities in my local area.
I had a keen interest in business, but I didn’t have enough experience or education in the industry to get a full-time role, and this led me to finding a solution – an apprenticeship! An apprenticeship allows me to spend 80% of my time getting on the job experience and the other 20% learning about the principles of a business and administration.
SPE has helped me build professional and transferable skills, one being leadership. In September of 2023 I launched my improvement project, ‘The materials in and receipt in process’. During the launch of my project, I chaired 3 meetings, updated my department on the process, tested and adapted the process.
As well as supporting my career development, my apprenticeship has opened up lots of new and exciting opportunities. Most recently in August 2023 when I was shortlisted as a finalist for the 2023 Make UK Rising Star Award, attending the Midlands and East Regional Dinner several months later. I feel very proud to have been involved in this event and look forward to seeing what the future holds for me at SPE.
Callum – Level 3 Machining Technician
I started my apprenticeship at SPE in January 2023, after spending 2 years at university studying Accounting and having a full-time role in sales. I decided that I wanted to make a change to my career path and take on a more hands on role. I spent a few months looking at different apprenticeship providers in my area, after comparing my options and looking at the facilities each provider had, I was sure SPE was the right choice for me. The facilities on site were incredible and throughout the interviewing process it was clear that SPE wanted to invest in me as much as I wanted to invest my time into them.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship so far, and this is reflected in my work. During my rotation I was particularly interested in the Mill Turn section, these are the most complex machines in the factory. I demonstrated a good understanding of the machines, and it was clear that I was invested in the work. I have now been working in the Mill Turn section for several months in which I have been developing my skills with expert engineers making complex parts for the nuclear, oil and gas, and defence sector.
In class I always strive to be the best and push myself to achieve the highest standard, applying material from the classroom to real life applications on the shop floor. My understanding and interest in the subjects have not gone unnoticed and I have been lucky enough to be fast tracked as a result of my abilities and commitment.
I am excited about the future and look forward to furthering my career with Swiftool Precision Engineering.
