MACHINING

We have a large fleet of machines that is continually expanding and changing to meet the demand of parts that we supply. With 7 SMX and 1 MX Doosan mill turn machining centres (3 of the machines using robot loading systems) and 3 Matsuura MX850’S with 4 pallets and 90 tool carousels, our capacity to machine work is un-matched. Lean working methods is a priority so that workflow is consistent and customers expectations are exceeded with quality without compromise.

Our CNC milling capabilities cover complex five-axis machining up to 500kg billets. Our multi pallet machines and continued investment in industry 4.0 allow SPE to operate at maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness ensuring our customers’ needs and expectations are exceeded. We use the Zoller measuring system to accurately measure tooling which is then loaded into the machine via QR code scanning to drastically improve setup times, uses pinpoint accuracy and removes any human error from this process. We also have a state-of-the-art tool store which automatically re-orders tooling when supplies are running low and dedicated staff to build tooling for the shop floor which further improves setup times.

Our CNC Turning capabilities promote high-productivity by using multi-tasking mill-turn machining centres with 9axis’s capabilities. They are equipped with 12000rpm spindles, B-axis milling spindles, 40-tool magazine, servo-driven tailstock, linear scales, the latest Fanuc 31iB5 controls, LU-X4 steady rest in conjunction with the tailstock enables reliable and high-accuracy machining of long workpieces. Partnered by Hydrofeed robotic arms, un-manned production ensures customers schedules are achieved without compromise.

WHA Subsea Installation Cover

SPE were approached by our customer to help design an installation cover to protect delicate electrical equipment during installation. The team needed to design something big enough to fit around the equipment therefore manufacturing the structure in different segments due to the sheer size and for ease of installation. Printed on our WASP 3MT HDP machines, the cover is printed from 10 segments that fix together in sequence and is 1600mm diameter and 1800mm tall.
